Until the 19th century, it was a large rock formation made of hard Enkeberg limestone. They were then partially demolished due to road construction, meaning that only a small part of the stones can still be explored today. Next to the Külbensteine is the so-called Külben Chapel, which was built in 1866 by Provost Carl Böckler. The Easter bonfire takes place next to the monument and chapel every year.
