The museum of the town of Lennestadt was opened in 1993 after excavation work by LWL (Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe) and the local heritage association around the medieval castle ruins of the "Peperburg". The active support of the local history association ensured the museum's operation and the "Alte Amtshaus" in Kölner Straße quickly established itself as a permanent institution in today's cultural town of Grevenbrück. The historic schoolroom, weaving room and treasure chamber with finds from the Peperburg, combined with regular special exhibitions, demonstrations and activity days, regularly ensured a full house. In 2020, the building, which was built in 1910, received a grant from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia ("Heimat-Zeugnis"). Since May 2024, the museum has shone in new and modern splendor and has now become an intergenerational and modern meeting place for the whole of Lennestadt. Each of the now 43 districts can be found in the new town museum to strengthen cohesion and diversity in Lennestadt.
