In 900, Niedermarsberg at the foot of Eresburg (Obermarsberg) was first mentioned in a document as "Villa Horohusen". The developing settlement was called Horhusen and was granted Dortmund town rights in 962. Later, the name Stadtberge was used, which was replaced by Niedermarsberg from 1872. The coat of arms of Niedermarsberg is based on the seal of the von Horhusen family from the 14th century.

Marsberg - rich in culture and history - invites you to stroll through the streets of the town and discover one highlight after another. Many monuments, more than 1000 years of history, green oases, idyllic old town corners and a touch of artistic flair await you.

The landmarks that reflect Marsberg's history are as diverse as its history itself. Feel like the former rulers of the Middle Ages when you take a look at Marsberg's landmarks such as the Bilstein Tower or Buttenturm. The Stiftskirche - Obermarsberg's landmark - towers mightily and majestically above the town. Make your way up and you will be rewarded with a unique view over the town and far beyond.

The region around Marsberg is a true paradise for outdoor enthusiasts and perfect for a day trip into the countryside. Embedded in a varied landscape, hikers and cyclists get their money's worth. Culture and nature come together on every tour. The natural Diemelsee lake, river valleys, extensive forests and small villages are just waiting to be discovered.
