Church

#deinsauerland / Neusta POIs / Nikolaikirche Brilon

The Nikolaikirche on Steinweg was built in 1782 by the Franciscan Minorites after ten years of construction. It stands a few meters west of the square where a chapel of the same name had stood as a church for Brilon merchants since the 13th century.

The Nikolaikirche is probably the last beautiful building in the late Baroque and Rococo style in Westfalen. The masonry consists of plastered quarry stone, the architectural structure of sandstone.

The various altars and figures are particularly beautiful. The towering main altar forms the focal point with its harmonious combination of architecture, sculptural decoration and painting, which also incorporates the two rococo doors at the sides.
During the winter months, the Nikolaikirche regularly hosts candlelight concerts with many well-known national and international artists.
