The parish church in Mittelberge was consecrated on 18 May 1968 by the then Auxiliary Bishop Dr. Johannes Joachim Degenhard.
The architectural style of the church is characterized by the spirit of the Second Vatican Council and the "aggiornamento" advocated by Pope John XXIII. According to this, churches should be meeting places for Christians, in which the faithful come together around the altar, which stands at the center. The previously prescribed orientation of the church with the altar facing east was abandoned.
The architect Aloys Dietrich from Paderborn solved these ideas well with his choice of a square floor plan, the corners of which are cut off. The truncated square corners are used for the closed back wall of the altar, opposite for the addition of the tower with entrance hall and gallery, and on the sides for the sacristy and side altar. The pews surround the altar in a semi-circle.
The church organ comes from the Benedictine Königsmünster Abbey in Meschede. It was brought in on March 1, 1970, when the monastery church, which was also new, received a new organ and the old one, which came from the emergency church, was no longer needed.
Three new bells were hung in the tower at the end of 1972. They come from the Heidelberg bell foundry in Heidelberg and are consecrated in the names of St. Mary, St. Joseph and St. Lucia. The bells themselves were cast on October 17, 1972 in the Ulm/Danube foundry. Everything was managed and supervised by the energetic hand of the parish priest Heinrich Winkelmann.
