It was not until 1971 that operations in the "Christine" slate mine ceased after a good 100 years. Since then, the mine has been open to visitors and is part of the Grenzwelten National GeoPark. A visit with an expert guide through the tunnels is an unforgettable and lasting experience for young and old alike, which you should enjoy wearing a warm jacket. The temperature underground is 8° C all year round. As well as learning a lot about the formation and mining of slate, you will also find out how the slate is processed and used above ground. Even today, you can still see churches and houses throughout Upland and Hochsauerland that are covered in slate, and in some cases even the walls of the houses are clad in it.

Diving in the tunnel
Trained cave divers can explore the flooded floors on a 1.2 km long guide line. Fascinating dives uncover the secrets of the underworld. In the spotlight, divers discover items of clothing, shoes, bottles, tools, pipes, rails and trolleys, as if a workplace had only been abandoned for a short time. An impressive journey back in time. Stollen in a gallery - a treat for the palate during Advent
The secret to making a good stollen into a better one lies in its maturity. Our Stollen matures for around four weeks in the disused "Grube Christine" slate mine. The constant temperature of 8° C and constant humidity provide ideal conditions for the juicy, spicy taste to develop. Several times a week during the Advent season, you can take part in a special tasting session. After a tour of the mine, you can try the stollen flambéed with whiskey. Other flavors include marzipan, walnut and butter stollen. The very best, exquisite ingredients give the award-winning Stollen its perfect taste. Master baker Wolfgang von der Heid now even sends his Christinenstollen all over the world. You can find more products from the traditional company on the website www.gourmetbrot.de.

Marriage underground - a registrar in miner's clothing
You can even tie the knot in the slate halls of the mine. A civil wedding underground is an unforgettable ceremony. The shiny black rock forms a graceful backdrop in candlelight for your wedding ceremony with up to 25 spectators. Remember to wear sturdy shoes - after all, St. Barbara, patron saint of miners, is not prepared for a wedding party. A jacket is also advisable given the year-round temperatures of 8°C in the mine. There is plenty of space in front of the mine in Schwalefeld Straße for parking or for a proper reception for the newlyweds. For more information, visit www.heiraten-in-willingen.de

Relaxation and meditation - the perfect time-out
In the mine, the sense of time disappears. What happens outside becomes meaningless. The crystal-clear and pure air combined with the energy of the slate stone allows us to recharge our batteries and gain self-confidence in the security of the mountain. Find rest and relaxation in the peaceful silence with meditation, autogenic training, fantasy journeys and the sound of the singing bowl.
The relaxation exercises can have a beneficial effect on sleep disorders, nervous restlessness, general malaise, pressure to perform, tension, etc. The clear air of the mine can also have a beneficial effect on allergies and respiratory diseases. Information at www.glueckauf-willingen.de
