The Canstein area has been settled for a long time, as can be seen from Canstein Castle, which dates back to the 11th and 12th centuries. The "St. Laurentius Chapel" has also been part of the village landscape for a long time.
The building was erected between 1834 and 1837 as a classicist hall church with a wooden ceiling and 3/6 end. The hipped gable of the west façade was crowned with a cubic ridge turret. The interior is quite uniform in the Biedermeier style. The building is plastered and structured with wide corner pilaster strips.
