In a quiet corner of Werl's Altstadt, close to the St. Walburga provost church and the Steinerstraße pedestrian zone, lies the Städt. Museum Am Rykenberg - Wendelin-Leidinger-Haus.

The Burgmannshaus is a stately, medieval stone building with half-timbered sections. The oldest parts probably date from the 14th century and probably represent the original home of the v. d. Rykenberge castle family.

With its rich holdings in the historical accommodation, the Städt. Museum Haus Rykenberg is one of the most attractive of its kind

The museum building was erected in the 14th century by the "Burgmann von dem Rykenberge", who was one of the officers of Werl's archiepiscopal town guard.

The historic building creates a memorable ambience for the presentation of important epochs in Werl's town history.

The Biedermeier ambience of the grand bourgeois fireplace room, the main room on the first floor of the building, creates an impressive and beautiful setting for visitors and events. There are various offers for kindergartens and school classes.

For children's birthday parties, there are various themes to choose from depending on the age group.

There are special traditional events before Easter and Christmas. During a museum week, there is an extensive program accompanied by museum educators.

Readings, concerts, lectures and special guided tours are offered for adults.

The main room is ideal for civil weddings, which can be organized in consultation with the registry office. When the weather is fine, the romantic museum garden can also be used. Early booking is recommended.

Since 01.01.2014, the Neue Heimat- und Geschichtsverein has taken over the management of the Städt. Museum.

The association can be contacted by email at museum@nhgv-werl.de and at www.nhgv-werl.de.

Ms. Gabriele Moser-Olthoff is still responsible for museum education. You can reach her on Monday and Thursday afternoons at 02922 861631 or stadtmuseum-werl@web.de
