The museum building was erected in the 14th century by the "Burgmann von dem Rykenberge", who was one of the officers of Werl's archiepiscopal town guard.
The historic building creates a memorable ambience for the presentation of important epochs in Werl's town history.
The Biedermeier ambience of the grand bourgeois fireplace room, the main room on the first floor of the building, creates an impressive and beautiful setting for visitors and events. There are various offers for kindergartens and school classes.
For children's birthday parties, there are various themes to choose from depending on the age group.
There are special traditional events before Easter and Christmas. During a museum week, there is an extensive program accompanied by museum educators.
Readings, concerts, lectures and special guided tours are offered for adults.
The main room is ideal for civil weddings, which can be organized in consultation with the registry office. When the weather is fine, the romantic museum garden can also be used. Early booking is recommended.
Since 01.01.2014, the Neue Heimat- und Geschichtsverein has taken over the management of the Städt. Museum.
The association can be contacted by email at museum@nhgv-werl.de and at www.nhgv-werl.de.
