With the expansion of the rail network, signal boxes became necessary to monitor rail traffic. The riding signal box was the command signal box for the entire station. The north signal box was required for the parts of the line to the north that could not be seen from there, for traffic to Hagen and the Frettertal valley.

The signal box is located directly on the SauerlandRadring about 600 meters north of the Lennepark. From there, it can be reached on foot or by bike.
