Hiking at the Versetalsperre
The Gasmert hiking parking lot is the starting point for hikes around the Versetalsperre. The A1 hiking trail is around 11 km long and leads over the ridge near Gasmert to the Versetalsperre reservoir's riverside path. Between the village of Gasmert and Niederholte, you can enjoy beautiful views in many places. On the Gasmert hilltop, the trail runs through the heathland of the nature reserve of the same name. Dwarf shrubs such as heather, bilberry and cranberry grow here.
The Versetalsperre has a capacity of 32 million m3, making it the largest reservoir in the Märkischer Kreis. It is used to supply drinking water, regulate water levels and generate electricity. More than 100,000 people are supplied with drinking water from the dam.
