The "Buchenwald forests around Schanze" audio trail is an 11 km circular trail through the forests near Schanze. It consists of a total of 13 stations. As these stations build on each other, you should hike the circular trail anticlockwise from station 1 - 13. All stations are marked on site with posts and signs and have an additional QR code with which you can access the audio files in German, Dutch and English.
On the Rothaarsteig, you will first pass the Altarstein. The trail then takes you past the Dicken Eiche (thick oak) to the suspension bridge. Along the sculptures "Stein Zeit Mensch", "Kein leichtes Spiel" and "Krummstab", the tour takes you back to the hilltop village of Schanze.
At the end of the hike, you will pass the Kyrill-Pfad Schanze. This 1 km long path shows the natural force of the storm "Kyrill", which permanently destroyed the forests of the Sauerland in 2007. If you walk along the Kyrill-Pfad, you will come back to the actual hiking trail at its end. Turn right there.
