Information

Directions

The BestWeg Ostwig begins and ends at the "Am Steinberg" hiking parking lot in the Bestwig-Ostwig through road. The trail is marked in both directions with the "Bestwig BestWeg Ostwig" sign. A challenging mountain path awaits hikers right at the start, leading to the Steinbergruine, a former flue gas chimney. There you can enjoy a panoramic view from the rest area. The trail continues along a path. This leads along the Steinberg rock, above which a cross is enthroned. The following ascent to the Buchenwald in Hagen challenges your fitness once again. The route now continues on a wide forest path. A few meters off the path, a detour to the local museum and Schloss Gevelinghausen offers a cultural addition. The route runs parallel to the popular KneippWanderWeg Olsberg for a while and then crosses a district road near the Gevelinghausen sports field. A longer section of forest in Breberg leads to the XXL bench in Bestwig, a great vantage point in the Ruhrtal and also the last stop on the Bestwig Way of the Cross. A few meters further on, you have an exciting "eight-bridge view" above the Westfeld district. The route then continues along the residential area of Westfeld on the Ostwig swing path - with various swings. At the end of the hike, the Ostwig market square with St. Joseph's Church invites you to take another short break. The route continues along Querstraße and Kampstraße to the Ostwig Schützenhalle. There is also a playground here and the start of the Ostwig swing trail. The tour crosses a wooden bridge over the Elpe and then turns left along the banks of the Elpe. This "Elpeweg" is a popular walking trail. Shortly before the end of the hike, you pass the treading pool in the Elpe river. Finally, the tour ends at the starting point, the "Am Steinberg Ostwig" hiking parking lot.
