The circular trail leads in part along the Sauerland-Höhenflug long-distance hiking trail (Wanderbares Deutschland quality trail). It branches off from the Squirrel Trail at Hexentanzplatz. Over a length of 3.3 km, the circular trail is all about forestry.
If you follow the Fuchsweg trail clockwise from Hexentanzplatz, you will first pass a pond. At the next hiking trail junction, turn left and climb uphill to the information sign that explains the tasks of forestry. A few meters off the path, you can rest on a forest sofa and enjoy the wonderful view.
Downhill you come to the sawing station. Here you use a hacksaw to saw a slice of wood from a log, stamp "Walderlebnispfad Neuenrade" on it and take the slice home with you as a souvenir. Continue past an information board explaining the natural forest management and return to Hexentanzplatz.
From the forest stadium, we first walk along the Eichhörnchenweg to the Hexentanzplatz. (Detailed information can be found under the tour Forest Adventure Trail Squirrel Trail in Neuenrade).According to popular belief, witches used to ride to the Hexentanzplatz centuries ago to perform their dances here on moonlit nights. However, there is historical evidence that a place of execution with a gallows and an execution wheel was located near the Hexentanzplatz until the 18th century. At Hexentanzplatz, we keep slightly to the right and follow the Fuchsweg trail. Two information boards provide information about forestry and forest work.At a left-hand bend, we reach a tree-sawing station. Here, everyone can pick up a hacksaw and saw off a slice of wood from the logs provided, which may not be quite so straight. Then press the "Walderlebnispfad" stamp on the slice of wood and you have a beautiful and hard-earned souvenir. The trail continues over the highest point (Ennest, 426 m), from where you can enjoy a wonderful view over the valley of the Landwehrbach stream to Neuenrade. On the last section, we come back to the Eichhörnchenweg, where the newly created wetland biotope awakens interest in the flora and fauna. We return to our starting point - the Waldstadion - via the Hexentanzplatz.
