Treasure hunters watch out, this is your route! There are plenty of geocaches waiting to be found over 5.6 km. But the family-friendly hiking trail, which nestles into the landscape like a "butterfly" (hence its hiking symbol), has a few surprises in store, and not just close to the ground.
In the middle of the idyllic Kerspe valley, the animals at Ponyhof Isenburg are happy to welcome little fans: sheep, rabbits, dogs and of course the ponies, 10 in number, want to be admired. All the ponies are trusting; excursions accompanied by adults can be booked at the farm.
The Aussichtsturm Wienhagen has always been a prominent point on the border between Westfalen and the Rhineland. You can swing, teeter and slide to your heart's content in the playground by the tower. The tower is accessible all year round.
A visit to the Restaurant & Café Landhaus Varmert, very quiet and surrounded by nature, is the perfect way to round off the day.
The tour starts at the Dürener Haus hiking parking lot in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park, located directly on the B 237 and approx. 50 m from the bus stop. From there, walk in the direction of Wienhagen until you reach the playground. Turn right here and descend the hill. After approx. 500 m, Schwenke left and continue along the path. At the next fork, you have two options:If you want to visit the Isenburg pony farm, stay on the path until the next entrance. Turn left there and then keep right. Here you will find the pony farm. The circular hiking trail, on the other hand, takes you further to the left around the bend and via Büchen in the direction of Wienhagen Tower. Turn right at the playground. At the next crossroads, turn right towards the Aussichtsturm Wienhagen. Continue straight ahead until the next fork. Take the right fork to the end of the forest and walk around to the right along the forest on the so-called "Panoramaweg". From here, you return to the path that you already know as the outward route to the Wienhagen Tower and follow it to the left until you reach the crossroads at the playground. Here, turn right onto the path back to the Dürener Haus hiking parking lot.The tour can be shortened if necessary by taking the path from the tower back to the hikers' parking lot instead of the "Panoramaweg".
