The former Homert Nature Park, now the Sauerland Rothaargebirge Nature Park, has created a forest nature trail around the Spitzenberg and Stumpfen Kahlenberg mountains together with the Stockum tourist office. This was partially destroyed by storm Kyrill (2007). It was reopened in 2009 after extensive repairs.

Around 40 information signs explain the fauna and flora of the Kahlenberge over a distance of 3 km. Both the Stumpfeberg and the Spitze Kahlenberg are made of black siliceous shale, which was deposited here millions of years ago as mud. The entrance to the forest nature trail is at the nature park parking lot in the Schwermecke valley near the Klute composting plant.

Information

Directions

Approx. 50 m before the parking lot, the trail begins by heading diagonally uphill through coppice forest (consisting of oak, birch, beech, rowan and other coniferous species). Follow the "Waldlehrpfad" (forest nature trail) signs, which will lead you to the individual signs informing you about the various shrubs such as broom, wild roses, common hawthorn, hazelnut and many more. The trail takes you along paths and tracks through the diversity of the forest and meadows - past rowan, English oak, copper beech, sycamore, Douglas fir, gnarled pines and ant hills. Enjoy the views, the peace and quiet, the newly acquired knowledge and marvel at the wealth of species in the Sauerland Siebengebirge. The core of this area includes the seven hilltops Bergmer, Wintrop, Rehberg, Spitzer Kahlenberg, Stumpfer Kahlenberg, Winzenberg and Gräfenberg. Complemented by the adjacent mountains of Hetvert, Haunscheid, Bauvert, Christenberg, Attenberg and Denstenberg, they form the unique landscape of the Sauerland Siebengebirge, which is unlike any other.
