Former Rumbeck monastery / alternatively Mühlbachtal hiking parking lot
The starting point of the nine-kilometre circular trail, which leads through the romantic Mühlbachtal nature reserve in the Arnsberg Forest, is Rumbeck Monastery. Over the course of more than 700 years, the nuns of the Premonstratensian order created an infrastructure here that made it possible to live with and from nature. From the 16th century at the latest, a well-functioning business developed with its own grain, oil and sawmill. In addition to firewood and timber, the monastery forests provided wood for charcoal burning and glassworks. Some relics from this time can still be seen today. For example, charcoal can still be found at some of the charcoal kilns in the forest, such as at Station 17. Traces of some of the eleven former fish ponds can still be found in the area. At the time, these ensured the local supply of the sisters and powered the mills. The two remaining ponds are still used for fish farming today.
