Altena
Nestled in the hilly landscape, Burg Altena towers above the river valley, where the old buildings are lined up one after the other. Burg Altena is undoubtedly not only the namesake, but also the town's eye-catcher. It has stood on the top of the Wulfsegge hill since the 12th century. Winding alleyways lead up the hill from the town center. But don't worry: the ascent can also be mastered wonderfully with the adventure elevator. On the way through the tunnel, visitors are whisked away to almost forgotten times by virtual mythical creatures before taking the elevator directly to the castle courtyard.
The town scores points with its location in the middle of green countryside, on the Lenne, where houses from past centuries are lined up next to each other. Those interested in culture will get their money's worth on historical city tours of the many industrial monuments. Those who prefer a more relaxed pace can enjoy their time on the Lenne promenade in one of the many cafés.
It is only a short walk from the town to the forest in the middle of the Sauerland Rothaargebirge Nature Park.
