Herscheid
In a scenic location in the Ebbegebirge mountains, surrounded by the Verse, Fürwigge and Oestertalsperre dams, the resort of Herscheid has developed into a friendly, popular vacation and home town. The idyllic location in the Sauerland and the good transport links to the major cities make the municipality very popular as a home town.
There are also numerous trails for hiking or cycling, one of the most beautiful outdoor swimming pools in the region and railroad enthusiasts, geologists and historians will also get their money's worth when visiting Herscheid - in short: with its great leisure and recreational value, Herscheid is not only a nice place to live, but also attracts tourists from near and far.
The municipality of Herscheid has been a state-approved resort since autumn 2021. The municipality, whose altitude in the Schwarze Ahe valley starts at 250 meters, consists of a varied and diverse low mountain range landscape, almost 60 percent of which is forested.
In the south, Herscheid's municipal area extends to the crest of the Ebbegebirge with the Nordhelle, the highest elevation in the Märkischer Kreis. The charming landscape, the vastness of the forests, meadows and fields as well as the well-marked network of hiking trails have made Herscheid a popular hiking region known far beyond the municipal boundaries. Not forgetting the 240-kilometre Sauerland-Höhenflug hiking trail, which runs through the municipality of Herscheid, is another highlight. Friends of winter sports will find smaller toboggan slopes and an extensive machine-groomed cross-country ski trail of approx. 20 kilometers rounds off the winter sports offer.
The Ebbehang has also become a popular training ground for hang-gliders and paragliders. Water sports and camping at the Oestertalsperre dam, mini golf, tennis, gliding and horse riding are also available. The warm-water outdoor pool is also undoubtedly one of Herscheid's attractions.
