The pillory is an old sign of jurisdiction. The old town hall behind it was destroyed in 1646 during the 30 Years War. The vaulted cellar reaches under the neighboring house.
The pillory or kook is the only surviving example in Westfalen. A similar pillory stands in the neighboring Waldeck in Korbach. Criminals were publicly displayed on a pillory.
