Handover of donations and planting of the first plants as part of the Metten company's planting campaign.

Thousands of participants made the Metten anniversary campaign "Every sausage for the forest" a real success. The Sauerland Rothaargebirge Nature Park e. V. has now received 20,000 euros for the joint reforestation project in the Attendorn Repetal on an area belonging to the Olpe district.

"We are very pleased with the result of our "Dicke Sauerland" anniversary campaign," summarizes Managing Partner Tobias Metten. 20,000 euros were raised for the reforestation project at the medieval Jäckelchen castle. Thousands of raffle participants entered their codes to trigger a donation from the Metten company for the project. The family business generously rounded up the amount at the end of the campaign.

Peter, Ulrich and Tobias Metten were now able to hand over the donation cheque to Detlef Lins, Managing Director of Naturpark Sauerland Rothaargebirge e. V., on their behalf. The date for the donation handover was aptly chosen, as the first seedlings of the new trees had just been planted in the forest area. When selecting the tree species, those responsible were guided by the region's original vegetation. The result is a mixed oak-lime forest based on the historical forest pattern, which is characterized by its low sensitivity to drought - supplemented by a beech area. "Now that the area has been cleared of old spruce trees, mulched and fenced off to protect it from animal predation, the first plants are starting to appear, giving us an idea of what this area will look like in the future," says Tobias Metten.

Detlef Lins from Naturpark Sauerland Rothaargebirge e. V. is delighted with the project and the progress made so far: "As the largest nature park in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Sauerland Rothaargebirge Nature Park has also suffered greatly in recent years due to drought and bark beetle infestation. Any support in reactivating forest areas is valuable. The Metten campaign with its large donation is an important building block in this respect. The commitment of local companies, who are aware of the importance of the forest for the environment and life in the region, really gives us hope and we would very much welcome it if this campaign has a signal effect and finds imitators."

The company and the Metten family have felt a strong connection to the local forest for generations. Tobias Metten: "We are delighted that we can now make a contribution to reforestation in the Sauerland after the difficult past few years for nature."

About the "Every sausage for the forest" campaign
To mark the 60th anniversary of the "Dicke Sauerländer" bockwurst, Metten launched a large-scale sales promotion campaign last year with the motto: "Every sausage for the forest!" Consumers were asked to enter a promotional code on the 5x80g cans on the Metten website so that 25 cents each would go towards the reforestation project, which is being implemented together with the Naturpark Sauerland Rothaargebirge e.V. in the Attendorn Repetal. The mechanics were very simple: buy a sausage, enter the code and do something good for the forest in the process! And by the way, with a little luck, participants could also win one of 60 great prizes.
