We in the Sauerland are active together and are campaigning for the forest of the future. We and our partners are planting new trees throughout the region. An overview of various tree planting campaigns can be found here.
Planting campaigns at a glance
Arnsberg: "Arnsberg forstet auf" campaign with 5350 trees donated to date by local companies. Public planting campaigns are also planned for the future.
Balve: Climate-adapted baby forest in the Balve district of Mellen with sessile oaks, winter lime trees, sweet chestnuts and co. as a long-term project.
Brilon: There are regular planting campaigns in the Bürgerwald and Generationenwald, but they are currently on pause due to coronavirus. The planting campaign in March 2020 was part of a series of tree planting events that took place in March/April and October/November 2020 in the PEFC forest capitals across Germany.
Diemelsee Nature Park: Fruit tree planting campaign in Welleringhausen in late fall 2019.
Herscheid: In the fall of 2020, the "Forest of the Future Action Alliance" invited citizens to plant tree seeds in the ground on a designated deforested area during an individual walk. Around 200 people took part over the course of the weeks.
Iserlohn: Inter-municipal project "StadtBaumPaten" for more greenery in the area. Climate-adapted trees are planted throughout the city, each with a sponsor. Trees can be given as gifts for a special occasion.
Kirchhundem: Jubilee planting campaign by the village of Würdinghausen to mark its 750th anniversary: the aim was to plant at least 750 trees in and around the village in 2020, which was achieved (2,538 were planted in the end).
Marsberg: The twin towns of Marsberg and Lillers (France) plant 1,500 trees on the territory of the town of Marsberg in a friendship campaign for a mixed forest of the future.
Medebach: Planting campaign of fruit trees in the fall of 2020 with the elementary school, as a compensatory measure for the Aventura parking lot.
Meschede: The "Fuchsloch" district of the Meschede municipal forest (approx. 20 ha) is being reforested with several thousand oak seedlings to make it future-proof. The project is financed by subsidies from the state of NRW. 10,000 young trees were planted around the Lörmecketurm in November 2021 as part of the WaldLokal project.
Möhnesee: The "Waldlokal" project aims to help the forest on Lake Möhnesee through reforestation. Private individuals as well as companies can become tree sponsors. The first 1500 trees have been planted below the Möhnesee tower. The wild cherry, English oak and sycamore varieties have been selected to defy climate change. A second project is the "Völlinghausen nature experience area". In addition to a fruit tree planting campaign, a wildlife park house with a xylotheque - a wooden library with around 30 wooden books - is being built in the local wildlife park.
Olsberg: A new fruit tree meadow was created in the Kneipp adventure park.
Rüthen: Zukunftswald e.V. and municipal fundraising campaign "We help our forest". Areas for reforestation as part of both campaigns were made available in the Rüthen municipal forest. Planting campaigns with schoolchildren and adults took place on two areas in 2020. There will be a campaign with the nature park school in fall 2021.
Schmallenberg: In the fall of 2019, Schmallenberg secondary school planted 2,200 young trees in Bad Fredeburg. A further 1000 trees in the state forest were planted by eighth graders from the grammar school in the fall.
Warstein: PEFC Forest Capital 2020 and 2021: Tree planting took place in March 2020, followed by further tree planting campaigns with citizens in fall 2021.
Winterberg: Planting campaign in spring 2022 - guests and residents can plant a tree in return for a donation.
Bürgerwald concepts:
Möhnesee: The Bürgerwald at Möhnesee is already entering its second round. In 2020, demand for the 220 or so trees was so high that many interested parties put their names on a waiting list. Now you can sponsor a cherry tree, a Norway maple or a lime-leaved birch or, perhaps as part of a company or club donation, sponsor a larger area.
Warstein: The town of Warstein has been pursuing its "Bürgerwald" project since the beginning of 2020. This has been growing steadily since the first tree planting and will continue to welcome support in the future.
