After the hike, you can stop off at the western-themed restaurant "Cattlemen's" (Tel. 02353/669960, https://cattlemens-halver.de/).
The 6.4 km long circular hiking trail A2 leads from the Karlshöhe in Halver past the "Im Heed" gliding site into the "Wilde Ennepe" nature reserve. The headwaters of the Ennepe are home to enchanting streams, legendary clearings and mysterious marshy meadows. No wonder people in the region have been telling stories about the Wild Ennepe for centuries.
At the "Auf der Mark" rest and viewing point, benches invite you to linger and enjoy an exciting radio play experience: simply scan the QR code with your smartphone and listen to a radio play from the "Magical world of legends at the top of the Volme"! Information about the nature reserve is also available on site.
From a natural history perspective, the nature reserve includes several rare biotopes: fens and marshes, meandering streams, alder and bog birch groves. Uncultivated holly stands grow at the "10 Hülsensträucher" natural monument.
The Aussichtsturm Karlshöhe, built in 1893, is the landmark of the town of Halver. Visits by appointment at www.heimatverein-halver.de.
Special features along the way: you can also discover a panoramic picture frame at the "Wilde Ennepe rest area" along the way.
Road markings: A2The starting point is on the edge of Halveran town center at the SGV Aussichtsturm Karlshöhe on Frankfurter Straße, the L528 state road to Kierspe. A hiking overview board at the starting point of the hike provides an overview of the hiking region and the hiking trail.Follow the trail sign A2 along Frankfurter Straße. After a few meters, turn right at the mini-golf course. The path continues straight ahead past the sports field before turning left into the forest. Through the forest, we soon reach a chain of fish ponds and finally reach the old route of the Wuppertalbahn, a disused railroad line between Radevormwald and Halver. The line has been converted into a footpath and cycle path that crosses the River Ennepe. We now follow the railroad line parallel to it for a few meters on a small footpath before we leave the old railroad line down a hill and keep left. Following the A2 marker and the wide forest road through the nature reserve, our path leads us along the edge of the moorland. At the next large crossroads, we keep left again and follow the path up the hill towards the field before the path meanders downhill into the forest again. Now, very close to the small but wild Ennepe, we take a bend to the right and follow the slightly ascending path out to the "Auf der Mark" settlement. Here we can now enjoy the great view over fields and meadows, see the avenue road from Halver to Kierspe on the horizon and follow the forest path further to the left. There is also a small rest area on the field path with information about the source of the Ennepe. It's definitely worth taking a break here. The path now leads us back towards Halver, following the A2 marker, before we reach a section of the path we already know and return to the Aussichtsturm Karlshöhe.
The paths in and around the nature reserve can be soggy after rainy days. Weatherproof and non-slip footwear is therefore recommended.
Family-friendly finale: a round of star golf on the mini golf course at the start and finish point of the hike: www.sterngolf-halver.de.
