Hikers' parking lot Skihang, Dahler Straße, 58809 Neuenrade
The Roden-Hennes-Weg runs along the ridges around Neuenrade. There are always new views and many special features to discover along the way, such as the Hönnequelle. Although Kohlberg and Quitmannsturm are not directly on the trail, they can be hiked not far from it. The name of the almost 10 km long hiking route commemorates the first mayor of Neuenrade, Johann Roynleysche.
It is also worth taking a short detour to the Rennofen Gut Berentrop, the best-preserved Rennofen in the Märkisches Sauerland. It dates back to the 13th century and is made of clay and loam. Racing furnaces or racing fires are the oldest devices for extracting iron from iron ore and were widespread throughout the region. The Neuenrade racing furnace is freely accessible.
For motorists, the "Skihang" hiking parking lot on the L 698 from Neuenrade in the direction of Altena-Dahle is a good starting point for the circular hiking trail. In winter, when there is enough snow, the parking lot lives up to its name. From here you can reach the ski slope on the Kohlberg. Skiers can be pulled up the mountain by a lift and enjoy the descent. Young and old tobogganers and bobsleigh riders have fun on the adjacent toboggan slope. You can also start the tour from the parking lot at the Waldstadion or park your car in one of the many free and unlimited parking areas in Neuenrade, e.g. Neuenrader Bahnhof, Bahnhofstraße 57.You can also easily reach the Roden-Hennes-Weg by public transport. If you come by train, walk from the station in the direction of the town center and join the N1 after approx. 200 m. For hikers arriving by bus, the "Wilhelmshöhe" bus stop is recommended as a starting point. The hiking trail leads directly past here.If you would like to hike the Roden-Hennes-Weg from the fire station in Neuenrade in a clockwise direction, you must first cross the B 229 and can first stock up on provisions at the REWE Kaufpark or fortify yourself for the tour at the bakery-café located there. At the next junction, turn left. In front of the Protestant cemetery, you walk uphill along a narrow path and continue along the "Wildschweinweg" forest adventure trail to the forest stadium. The ascent is rewarded with a wonderful view of Neuenrade and the mountains. Continue uphill to the forest school. There you follow the Sauerland-Höhenflug and finally reach the 3 x 3 m H in the Sauerland-Höhenflug logo, a popular photo spot. In between, you can enjoy the view again and again. Two forest sofas and benches invite you to do just that. You come back to the B 229, which you have to cross again. At the Hotel-Restaurant Wilhelmshöhe, you can fortify yourself for the rest of the hike. A short section of the path leads over asphalt and sidewalk until you turn left onto a narrow path. Follow this uphill to the "One Oak", from where you once again have a great view of Neuenrade and the path you have taken. Pass the Hönnequelle and you will reach the "Attigbuche". Here you leave the Sauerland-Höhenflug and return to Neuenrade via the northern access route. The route passes close to the Neuenrade vineyard and the cross on Berentrop Hill, a memorial for peace. "We admonish the world. The future will be as we are." If you like, you can take a short detour to the racing kiln near Berentrop - the oldest preserved racing kiln in the Märkischer Kreis. Back at the cross, take a meadow path to the Berentrop allotment site and walk downhill back to the starting point, the fire station in Neuenrade.
Take the train to Neuenrade station. From there, you will come to Roden-Hennes-Weg after approx. 200 m into town.
Take the MVG 60 bus to the Neuenrade Wilhelmshöhe stop. The Roden-Hennes-Weg is in the immediate vicinity.
