Marktplatz Medebach or Glindfelder Weg in Medebach, near REWE Markt
This circular hiking trail around Berg Kahlen and through the Gelängebachtal valley will delight you with a large proportion of natural forest and meadow paths.
First, the easy hike takes us along a paved road through open fields up to Berg Kahlen. Looking back, we enjoy the view of the small town of Medebach with its towering church of St. Peter and Paul. At the end of the road, the Way of the Cross begins up to the Kahlenkapelle chapel, but our route leads us to the left along a meadow path and then along natural paths through the mixed forest down into the Gelängebachtal valley. We listen to the babbling of the stream and, if you like, you can find out more about the Medebacher Bucht nature reserve using QR codes at the stations along the Gelängebachtal nature trail.
The beautiful forest trail leads to the stations of the Glindfeld Way of the Cross, where it is worth taking a detour along Hanseweg X13 up to the Kahlenkapelle chapel or leaving the circular trail to the left for a short "journey into the past" and peering through the old walls at the historic monastery walls and the former Gut Glindfeld.
Back on the actual circular route, we march back towards the old Hanseatic town, with the "Holy Mountain" to the right and a wide view of the open countryside to the left.
Insider tip for adventurers: scramble up to the chapel via the Philosopher's Path. This is where the monks of the Kreuzherren used to "philosophize" about their Sunday sermon in days gone by.
Directions from the market square:The circular hiking trail is marked throughout with the white/black M1.From the market square, walk 500m up Oberstraße and turn left into Glindfelder Weg. At the REWE Markt, the path leads to the left, slightly uphill up the Am Kahlen road. Behind the cross, the Medebacher Kreuzweg begins up to the Kahlenkapelle chapel, but we continue straight ahead along the edge of the forest and then turn left, walk 200m on a meadow path, which then continues to the right. We come to a natural path, which runs steeply downhill through the forest in places and meets the Medebacher Bucht Rundweg and Gelängebachtal nature trail at the bottom of the Gelängebachtal valley. After ½ hour on the forest path, we reach the stations of the Glindfeld Way of the Cross, which leads steeply to the right to the Kahlenkapelle chapel. However, the Kahlenweg M 1 does not lead as steeply uphill via a grassy path and along the edge of the forest at the top with a view of the Hochsauerland Park. We can see Medebach ahead of us, with the large parish church pointing the way.The tour often runs along natural paths and trails and is therefore not suitable for baby carriages and bicycles!Directions from Center Parcs:Center Parcs guests can join the circular walk directly from REWE Markt, Am Kahlen. At the petrol station, cross Oberstraße, turn into Erlenstraße and follow it to Glindfelderweg. Follow Glindfelderweg to the left until you reach the supermarket and then follow the white/black M1 signs.
The tour often runs on natural paths and trails and is therefore not suitable for baby carriages and bicycles!
Possible difficulties in heavy snow from November to March.
Current information about our forests - The bark beetle and its consequences
The forest owners are endeavoring to take the necessary measures in the forests and to remove the damaged wood. However, due to the extent of the damage, this work cannot be completed in a short space of time. The clearing and reforestation of the damaged forest stands will therefore take a long time and sometimes lead to disruptions such as closures and detour in the forests. This must always be taken into account when visiting the forest.
We therefore appeal to everyone who cares about the forest:
